Urban Intervention

Location

Kyjov, Czech Republic

Involvement period

2025

The project focuses on the revitalisation of the sports complex and the adjacent municipal park in Kyjov. Its main objective is to transform the currently enclosed and disconnected area into an open part of the town, bringing together sport, recreation, culture and everyday urban life. The proposal is based on an analysis of local activities, sports facilities, cycling infrastructure, as well as the existing qualities and limitations of the site.

The sports complex opens towards the town through clearly defined entrances and new connections to the adjacent park. Existing sports functions are preserved and complemented by a multifunctional court, tennis, outdoor squash, parkour, workout facilities and a fitness centre. A new grandstand provides improved facilities for athletes and visitors, while its relocation allows for more efficient use of the entire site. The naturally rising terrain is incorporated into an uphill running route, expanding the range of training opportunities.

Equally important is the transformation of the municipal park from a green space people mainly pass through into a recreational and social destination. A new amphitheatre, gathering space, public barbecue area, pavilion and a new meander of the Kyjovka River are created here. A children’s playground forms a natural spatial filter between the park and the sports grounds, while the bistro, cycling facilities and other amenities encourage use by athletes, local residents and visitors alike.

The result is an interconnected sports and recreational complex that builds on the existing potential of the site, broadens the range of activities and brings this extensive area back into the everyday life of Kyjov.
